Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs Dies at 84
Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Olu Jacobs has died at the age of 84, according to his family.
Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
His son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced his death in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, describing him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, as well as “The Lion of Lufodo.”
According to the family, Olu Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942, and died on September 16, 2026. The family also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy during the mourning period.
Olu Jacobs enjoyed a distinguished acting career spanning several decades. He began his career with appearances in British television productions and international films before returning to Nigeria, where he became one of the most respected figures in the country’s film industry.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in England and worked with several repertory theatres in Britain before appearing in numerous international productions.
The veteran actor is survived by his wife, actress Joke Silva, their sons and a granddaughter.
