NDC Postpones Campaign Council Inauguration to October 26
The party attributed the one-week postponement to Peter Obi’s overseas engagement, with the inauguration expected to form part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26, 2026, as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the change in a statement issued on Monday, October 19, attributing the postponement to the busy schedule of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who has an important engagement overseas.
Director apologised to party members and supporters for any inconvenience caused by the change of date and urged them to remain focused on the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The inauguration was initially scheduled to coincide with a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), where key decisions relating to its election preparations were expected to be considered.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, had previously explained that consultations with Obi and the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were necessary to finalise appointments to the campaign council.
Cleopas said the council’s structure had been prepared, adding that the planned gathering would also provide an opportunity to present certificates of return to the party’s candidates and strengthen cooperation among them ahead of the elections.
He also emphasised the importance of appointing individuals whose commitment to the party would remain firm throughout the campaign period.
With the inauguration now scheduled for Monday, October 26, the NDC is expected to continue preparations for the 2027 elections, with the campaign council set to coordinate activities in support of Obi and the party’s other candidates.
