WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results, 61.54% Get Five Credits

The West African Examinations Council has released the 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates, with 61.54 percent of the nearly two million students who sat the exam earning credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Of the 1,950,726 candidates who wrote the exam, 1,200,514 met the benchmark widely used for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. WAEC confirmed the release on August 5, telling candidates in a statement that results had been published and could be checked by generating a PIN through its official portals.

The exam board urged candidates to rely only on its official platforms, warning that fraudulent websites often circulate around results season promising early or alternative access to scores. Officials said the release process, which runs through script collation, marking, compilation and quality checks, also includes screening for suspected examination malpractice before results are finalised.

For the cohort involved, the results mark a key milestone in the path toward the 2026/2027 academic admissions cycle, determining which candidates can proceed directly to tertiary institutions and which may need to resit specific subjects.
