Nigerian Comedian Lasisi Elenu Urges Urgent Healthcare Reforms Amid System Failures

Nigerian comedian Lasisi Elenu has openly criticised the nation’s healthcare system, highlighting how Nigerians frequently find themselves helpless when in urgent need of medical care.

In a heartfelt video, Lasisi appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other governors to take immediate action to improve healthcare services across Nigeria.

He questioned why patients requiring urgent treatment are often denied admission in federal hospitals due to a shortage of bed space.

“I have witnessed situations in Nigeria that make you realize you are just one illness away from death,” he expressed emotionally.

Lasisi shared the tragic experience of losing his mother in 2022 after she was transferred between federal hospitals, with the family repeatedly told there was “no bed space” available.

He also condemned the poor treatment some patients and their families receive from healthcare workers and raised concerns about the increasing number of doctors emigrating from the country.

“Securing a bed in a federal government hospital in Nigeria often depends on knowing someone with connections,” he lamented.

Lasisi called for hospitals to be better equipped, for healthcare services to be more efficiently organised, and for a system that truly values and prioritizes human lives.
