Nigerian education administrator Dr Amos Josiah Dangut has assumed office as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Dangut officially took over on October 1, 2026, becoming the 14th Registrar of the regional examination body. He succeeds Alhaji Pateh Bah of The Gambia and will serve a five-year tenure running from October 2026 to September 2031.
His appointment was ratified by the WAEC Council, the organisation’s international governing body, at its 74th Annual Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, in March 2026.
Before his appointment, Dangut served as Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office from October 2023 to September 2026.
He began his education career in 1994 at St Louis College, Jos, where he served as a WAEC examiner, before joining the council in 1998. Over the years, he held several positions covering test development, examination security, branch administration, post-examination services and zonal coordination.
Dangut holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, a Master of Science in Animal Science, a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science and a Master of Education in Administration and Planning.
His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production obtained in 1991, an MSc in Animal Science in 1994, a PhD in Animal Science in 2017 and an M.Ed in Administration and Planning in 2020.

He also oversaw the Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform and Digital Records Archive, alongside digital systems for examination logistics, timetable management and monitoring examiners’ attendance.
Dangut has also represented WAEC at education policy platforms, including the Joint Consultative Committee on Education and the National Council on Education. He serves as the West African sub-region’s representative on the Executive Board of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa.
As Registrar and CEO, Dangut will oversee WAEC’s regional operations and its examination and certification responsibilities across the council’s member countries.
His appointment places a Nigerian education and examination administrator at the head of the regional body at a time when WAEC continues to expand the use of digital technologies in examination administration and certification.
