JAMB Plans UTME Centre in Canada From 2027
JAMB plans to establish a UTME centre in Ottawa, allowing eligible Nigerians in Canada and North America to sit the examination closer to home from 2027.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, with operations expected to begin in 2027.
The proposed centre will enable eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely to take the examination.
JAMB disclosed the plan on Monday following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
According to the board, the proposed centre is intended to make the examination more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” JAMB said.
The board said the initiative forms part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world” and strengthening the connection between Nigerians abroad and Nigeria’s education system.
JAMB added that the proposed centre could create greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally while reducing some of the logistical barriers faced by Nigerians living abroad who wish to study in Nigeria.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.
JAMB said it was “working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.”
The centre, once operational, is expected to serve eligible Nigerian candidates in Canada and other parts of North America who intend to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
The board has not yet provided details on the exact location of the proposed centre, its examination capacity or specific registration arrangements.
The initiative is expected to give Nigerians in Canada an additional option for sitting the UTME without having to return to Nigeria solely for the examination.
