Court Strikes Out Charges Against Alleged Fake PFIPC DG, Adeniyi Adeyemi
The Federal High Court terminates the eight-count case after prosecutors identify legal deficiencies and confirm that fresh charges have been filed before the FCT High Court.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday, October 12, 2026, following an application by the prosecution to terminate the proceedings and arraign Adeyemi afresh before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application on behalf of the Federal Government.
Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police and identified legal deficiencies.
According to the prosecution, the offences involving documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
Oyedepo informed the court that fresh charges had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned again without delay.
He consequently asked Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, after which the judge granted the request and struck out the eight-count charge.
Adeyemi Had Pleaded Not Guilty
Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, whose whereabouts were unknown.
The charges included allegations of conspiracy and forgery relating to the operation of the purported government agency. Adeyemi had pleaded not guilty to the charges during his earlier arraignment.
The case followed allegations that Adeyemi presented himself as the head of the PFIPC, an organisation the Presidency had described as fictitious and unauthorised.
The controversy had prompted investigations into the purported agency’s activities, including allegations involving forged official documents and attempts to operate as a government institution.
Adeyemi has maintained his innocence, and the allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings.
Fresh Trial Expected Before FCT High Court
The Federal Government’s decision to pursue fresh proceedings before the FCT High Court means the case is not concluded.
The striking out of the Federal High Court charge was a procedural step to allow prosecution before the court the government considers to have the appropriate jurisdiction. It does not amount to an acquittal or a ruling on the merits of the allegations.
The next stage of the case will depend on proceedings before the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi is expected to face the fresh charges.
