2027: INEC Introduces QR Codes to Help Lagos Voters Locate PVC Collection Centres
The commission says voters can scan codes on its official platforms to find designated collection centres, as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced a Quick Response (QR) code system to help registered voters locate designated centres for collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, announced the initiative on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Lagos.
According to INEC, the QR codes will be accessible through its official website and social media platforms, enabling eligible voters to identify their designated collection centres and obtain their cards before election day.
Salami urged registered voters to collect their PVCs promptly, verify their registration details and rely on official channels for election-related information.
INEC Clarifies Which PVCs Are Available
The commission said PVCs were available for people who registered between August 25 and December 10, 2025, as well as eligible voters who registered between 2011 and 2022 but had yet to collect their cards.
However, cards for people who registered between January 5 and July 26, 2026, were not yet available for collection as of the announcement.
Salami said INEC would communicate the collection arrangements for the outstanding cards through its official channels.
The QR-code initiative is intended to make it easier for voters to find their designated collection centres and reduce difficulties in accessing their voter cards.
INEC Strengthens Preparations for 2027 Elections
Beyond PVC collection, INEC said preparations for the 2027 general elections were continuing across several operational areas.
These include the procurement and testing of voter accreditation devices, improvements to election-result transmission systems, logistics planning, and the recruitment and training of electoral personnel.
The commission is also working to strengthen its operational readiness ahead of the polls.
Commission Targets Vote-Buying and Illegal Campaign Financing
INEC Lagos also outlined plans to strengthen measures against vote-buying, illicit campaign financing and other electoral offences.
The commission said it was collaborating with relevant anti-corruption agencies and the Federal Ministry of Justice to address electoral violations.
Engagement with political parties on financial reporting, auditing and compliance with campaign finance regulations is also expected to intensify ahead of the elections.
The measures are intended to improve compliance with electoral laws and promote greater accountability among political parties and candidates.
INEC Urges Voters to Verify Information
The commission urged political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and in accordance with the law.
It also emphasised the importance of voter education and inclusive participation, particularly among women, young people and persons with disabilities.
INEC encouraged voters to verify election-related information through official channels to reduce the spread of misinformation and protect public confidence in the electoral process.
The QR-code initiative forms part of the commission’s efforts in Lagos State to improve access to voter services and encourage eligible citizens to collect their PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
