Police Declare Osun NURTW Factional Leader Wanted Over Emir’s Murder
Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura says six suspects have been arrested over the September 13 killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi in Ile-Ife, while efforts continue to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle and another NURTW chieftain.
The Osun State Police Command has declared Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, wanted in connection with the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, announced this on Monday, October 19, while parading suspects arrested for various offences at the command’s headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the police commissioner, six suspects have been arrested in connection with Oyeyemi’s killing at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on September 13, 2026. Those arrested reportedly include Alowonle’s personal assistant and an operative of the Osun State Amotekun Corps.
Zungura also identified another NURTW chieftain, Ojo Adeyemi, popularly known as Sibi, as a suspect being sought in connection with the killing.
The commissioner said investigations by the command’s Homicide Section led to the arrests. He added that statements obtained from suspects allegedly implicated Alowonle and Adeyemi in the incident.
Among those arrested was Hammed Olalekan Dauda, also known as Jagaban, who was reportedly found in possession of a locally modified firearm.
According to Zungura, Dauda allegedly told investigators that Alowonle had supplied him with the firearm. The investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Waliu Adejare, also known as Jay Jay, identified by the police as Alowonle’s personal assistant.
The other suspects named in reports of the police briefing were Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf and Ayeni Adegbola.
Declaring Alowonle wanted, the commissioner said the command was intensifying efforts to apprehend him, Adeyemi and other suspects still at large who were allegedly involved in the killing.
Oyeyemi was shot dead during a violent incident at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on September 13. The police had announced an investigation into the shooting on the day it occurred.
The investigation remains subject to the legal process, and the allegations against the suspects have not been established by a court of law.
