The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen from its owner in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrests followed sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operations.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on October 3, 2026, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway.
The command said that on September 30, a man identified as Nasiru Ibrahim reported that some passengers had chartered his tricycle from Hotoro Quarters in Kano to Yar Gaya in Dawakin Kudu LGA for an agreed fare of ₦8,000.
Police said that while they were travelling along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, the passengers allegedly produced locally made guns, threatened Ibrahim at gunpoint and took possession of his tricycle.
The suspects allegedly dragged Ibrahim into a nearby bush and kept him there before fleeing with the tricycle.
Following the report, operatives attached to the Filin Hockey Police Division began a follow-up operation under the directive of Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The police said the operatives traced and recovered the tricycle at Wudil LGA along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway at about 1:30 p.m. on October 3.
Two suspects were subsequently arrested, while police said they recovered one tricycle and two locally made guns.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Isah, 27, and Shehu Ibrahim, 25, both from Zogarawa Village in Dawakin Kudu LGA.
The command said the suspects confessed to the alleged offence during investigation.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their commitment and professionalism and thanked residents for their support and cooperation.
The police also appealed to members of the public who may have been victims of similar tricycle robberies along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, particularly the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis, to come forward and assist investigators with identification.
The command said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
