NDC Urges Otti to Support Obi in 2027, Citing 2023 Political Alliance
The NDC has urged Abia Governor Alex Otti to support Peter Obi in 2027, citing their shared Labour Party platform and political relationship in 2023.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Abia State Governor Alex Otti to support its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 election, citing the political relationship between the two men during the 2023 general elections.
The party's Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the call in a post on X on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Agada described Otti as one of the major beneficiaries of the political movement associated with Obi during the 2023 elections, when both men contested under the Labour Party.
While Obi contested the presidency, Otti won the Abia State governorship election.
Agada argued that Otti should therefore support Obi's 2027 presidential campaign under the NDC.
“If we are being honest, Alex Otti should be at the forefront campaigning for and supporting the 2027 ambition of His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi under the NDC,” Agada wrote.
“He was the biggest beneficiary of Obi's wave in 2023. If for nothing else, he owes him,” he added.
Agada also criticised Otti's position on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the governor's support for some of the Federal Government's policies was inconsistent with supporting Obi's presidential bid.
He described some of the Tinubu administration's reforms as “anti-people” and argued that supporting them amounted to support for Tinubu's political ambitions. Those characterisations were made by Agada and do not constitute an independent assessment of the policies.
The comments followed recent remarks by Otti about his position ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Arise News, Otti said he already had a preferred presidential candidate but declined to publicly identify the person when asked whether he would choose between Tinubu and Obi. He said his preferred candidate would be someone capable of winning the election.
The development comes as the NDC continues to organise its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections. The party has authorised Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to nominate key officials for the Presidential Campaign Council in consultation with the party leadership.
Agada's comments reflect the NDC's position on Otti's political alignment ahead of the 2027 election. Otti has not publicly identified his preferred presidential candidate in the statements cited in recent reports.
