Kelechi Iheanacho Enjoys Resurgence as Bursaspor Scoring Run Continues

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is enjoying an impressive start to life at Turkish club Bursaspor, having scored in each of his first six league appearances.

The 29-year-old joined Bursaspor as a free agent in July 2026 after his contract with Scottish champions Celtic expired. He has quickly repaid the club’s faith, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in his opening six matches.

Iheanacho’s latest contribution came on Monday, September 7, when he scored twice to help Bursaspor secure a 2–1 comeback victory over Manisa FK.

The brace extended his scoring streak to six consecutive league matches and reportedly marked the first time in his career that he had scored in six straight games. His goals have also placed him at the top of the TFF 1. Lig scoring chart.

Bursaspor have won five of their opening six league matches and sit second in the standings, one point behind leaders Batman Petrolspor. The club, which recently returned to the second tier after a difficult period, is aiming to secure promotion back to the Turkish Süper Lig.

Iheanacho’s current form represents a positive development following a difficult period in his career. Before moving to Turkey, he had spells with Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla, Middlesbrough and Celtic.

His time at Bursaspor has so far provided the consistency and confidence that had been missing during some of his previous campaigns. His goals have made him a central figure in the club’s promotion push and could also strengthen his case for a return to the Nigeria national team.

However, Bursaspor compete in the TFF 1. Lig rather than the Turkish top flight, meaning Iheanacho’s next challenge will be to maintain his form while helping the club achieve promotion.

For now, the Nigerian striker’s six-game scoring streak has made him one of the most prolific players in the division and one of the early success stories of the Turkish season.
