Gbajabiamila: I Never Betrayed Tinubu’s Trust, Allegations Were Unfounded
Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila says he never betrayed President Tinubu’s trust and maintains that investigations found no wrongdoing in the PFIPC controversy.
Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the President and denied any involvement in the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila spoke on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his 2026 Mega Empowerment Programme at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, where he addressed the allegations that had linked him to the organisation.
The controversy followed investigations into the purported PFIPC, which was presented as a federal government institution despite the absence of a valid legal instrument establishing it.
The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the matter said in its preliminary findings that it found no evidence that Gbajabiamila authorised, established or participated in the activities of the organisation. The committee said evidence before it showed that he alerted security and investigative agencies after concerns about the organisation were brought to his attention.
The panel also said it found no valid Act of the National Assembly, presidential executive order or other lawful instrument establishing an institution known as PFIPC. It reported alleged fabrication of government documents and unauthorised use of the names and identities of senior government officials.
Speaking about the controversy, Gbajabiamila said the investigative reports were now in the public domain and that due process had prevailed despite pressure from some quarters to condemn him before the investigations were concluded.
“The past few months have tested me in ways I never expected. Stories were written, strange accusations were made, lies were told, and my integrity was questioned,” he said.
Gbajabiamila said investigations by relevant authorities had found no wrongdoing on his part.
According to him, investigations by the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission cleared him of the allegations.
He said President Tinubu's longstanding knowledge of his character and record had also strengthened the President's confidence in him.
Gbajabiamila maintained that he had never betrayed the confidence placed in him by Tinubu and that his commitment to the administration's Renewed Hope agenda remained unchanged.
He also said the allegations had not distracted him from his responsibilities as Chief of Staff, while warning against attempts to use falsehood or blackmail to undermine his work.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said his loyalty to Tinubu had remained firm over the years, including when he did not necessarily agree with every political decision.
He also warned individuals using his name to defame others or misrepresent his position, saying such conduct could have legal consequences.
The empowerment programme, organised for residents of Surulere, provided beneficiaries with cash support and various forms of assistance, including vehicles, electric tricycles, buses, security patrol vehicles and an ambulance.
The event was attended by political leaders and residents from the constituency.
Lagos State Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, commended Gbajabiamila for his continued engagement with his constituents and also used the occasion to campaign for President Tinubu's re-election.
The PFIPC controversy remains the subject of investigations and public discussion, while the House of Representatives' findings represent the position of its ad hoc committee based on the evidence it reviewed.
