Mazi Chima Amadi Launches Imo East Senate Bid, Dares Rivals to Public Debate
The Action Peoples Party candidate opened his campaign at Ogbaku, challenging opponents to defend their records before voters.
Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, the Action Peoples Party's (APP) candidate for the Imo East senatorial seat, formally launched his campaign on August 21, 2026, at a press conference held at St. Kevin's Catholic Church in Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Amadi challenged his rivals in the race to engage in open, public debate ahead of the 2027 election. "Let us tell the people what we have done, what we stand for and what we intend to do," he said, inviting opponents to lay out their records and proposals so voters can weigh all candidates before casting their ballots.
He was adopted as the APP's consensus candidate for the seat in May 2026, at a zonal congress held at the Iwuanyanwu Glass House in Owerri, following consultations with party stakeholders across the district's nine local government areas. The party describes him as a grassroots mobiliser with a background in humanitarian work and community development, with support among youth, women and professionals in the zone.
His campaign is built around addressing deteriorating roads, insecurity, joblessness and inadequate healthcare in Imo East, along with a pledge to push for more effective representation at the National Assembly. He said elections should be decided on "competence, character and workable solutions" rather than propaganda, and pledged a disciplined, peaceful campaign along with rigorous monitoring to guard against vote manipulation.
