2027: North-Central APC Endorses Tinubu for Second Term in Lafia
Political leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North-Central region have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement took place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Lafia Square in Nasarawa State, during a zonal rally attended by party leaders, elected officials and supporters from the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang led a delegation of APC leaders and stakeholders from his state to the gathering, where he declared their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Jos by Gyang Bere, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs.
According to the statement, Mutfwang attended the rally alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, governors from the region and other political leaders.
Mutfwang Backs Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid
Speaking at the event, Mutfwang expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and called for the continuation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He commended the President’s economic reform initiatives, arguing that sustained implementation could support economic growth, agricultural development, infrastructure renewal, job creation and improved living standards.
The Plateau governor acknowledged the economic pressures and security challenges confronting Nigerians but urged citizens to support efforts aimed at improving economic stability and strengthening national security.
He said nation-building required purposeful leadership, collective responsibility and cooperation among political stakeholders.
Mutfwang described the gathering as an expression of political unity among APC leaders in the North-Central region and reaffirmed the commitment of the Plateau delegation to Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
North-Central Leaders Endorse Tinubu and Shettima
The Lafia rally formed part of the APC’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a leading APC figure in the region, proposed Tinubu as the North-Central zone’s sole presidential candidate for the election. The proposal was supported by party leaders at the gathering.
The endorsement also covered Vice-President Kashim Shettima, with organisers seeking to mobilise political structures and supporters across the region for the Tinubu–Shettima ticket.
The rally brought together party stakeholders from Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
Plateau APC Delegation
Members of the Plateau delegation included Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, Plateau State First Lady Helen Mutfwang, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Naanlong Daniel and the governor’s Chief of Staff, Jeremiah Satmak.
Others included former Plateau State Governor Joshua Chibi Dariye, former Deputy Governor Pauline Tallen, Special Adviser on Political Affairs Istifanus Mwansat, APC candidates for the 2027 elections and other party stakeholders.
The rally marked a further step in the APC’s efforts to coordinate regional support for Tinubu ahead of the next general election. The endorsement represents the position of participating party leaders and does not replace the formal nomination process or determine the eventual election outcome.
