2027: Kano Governor Urges Residents to Shun Violence, Protect Peace
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged Kano residents to reject violence and protect peace as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general election.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged residents to avoid acts capable of disrupting peace and stability as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general election.
Yusuf made the appeal on Thursday, October 1, during Kano State's celebration of Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium.
The governor called on residents to embrace peace, unity and mutual respect, saying stability was important to the state's economic growth and development.
“As the 2027 General Election is fast approaching, I also appeal to you all to continue to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect. Let us shun violence and anything that may threaten the peace and stability of our dear state,” Yusuf said.
He also urged Nigerians to pray for a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
Yusuf commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state.
“I urge our people to reject violence, division, intolerance and criminality, and to embrace peace, lawful enterprise and responsible citizenship,” he said.
The governor said his administration remained committed to consolidating what it described as gains in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security and human capital development.
He also pledged continued cooperation with the Federal Government, local governments, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector and development partners.
“As we mark this 66th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, uphold peace and unity, and contribute our share towards building a stronger, more prosperous and peaceful nation,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf further reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies operating in Kano State.
He said the state would provide additional logistics and operational support to security formations, particularly the military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Department of State Services in vulnerable and frontline communities.
The governor's appeal comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with political parties and aspirants beginning to mobilise supporters across the country.
