2027: Eight Zamfara Assembly Members Defect From APC
Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have announced their departure from the APC amid continuing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), announcing their departure from the party during plenary in Gusau on Friday.
The lawmakers formally communicated their decisions to the House, representing Mafara South, Maradun I, Bakura, Bukkuyum North, Gummi I, Bungudu North, Maru North and Kaura constituencies.
The lawmakers did not immediately disclose the political parties they intend to join.
Their movement comes amid continuing political realignments in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Zamfara has experienced significant movement between political parties in recent months. In March 2026, Governor Dauda Lawal and a number of political figures in the state changed political affiliation, while the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki, and other lawmakers were also reported to have moved to the APC.
The latest defections alter the composition of the APC's representation in the state legislature and could have implications for political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The lawmakers' next political destination is expected to attract attention as political parties continue consultations and efforts to consolidate their structures across the state.
The reasons given by the lawmakers for their decisions and whether they intend to join the same political platform have not been fully disclosed.
The development comes as political activity intensifies across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with elected officials and political groups continuing to review their affiliations and alliances.
The Zamfara APC leadership is yet to issue a detailed public reaction to the defections.
