2027: Atiku Urges Nigerians to Collect PVCs, Promises Economic Relief
The ADC presidential candidate criticises rising living costs and insecurity, urging registered voters to safeguard their cards and use the ballot to seek change.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged registered voters to collect and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising to make life more affordable and improve security if elected president.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the appeal in a message shared on his official X account on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as he criticised the rising cost of living and persistent insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The former vice-president said Nigerians across different generations were struggling to meet basic needs, with households facing mounting financial pressure and concerns about personal safety.
Atiku Highlights Economic Hardship
Atiku described the difficulties confronting families, pensioners and young workers, pointing to rising food prices, healthcare expenses, transportation costs and rent.
He said many parents worried about how to feed their children, while pensioners were increasingly forced to choose between buying food and paying for medication.
He also noted that many young Nigerians found it difficult to meet essential expenses despite working, as transport fares, housing and other basic costs consumed much of their earnings.
The ADC presidential candidate argued that Nigerians should not have to contend with economic hardship and insecurity at the same time.
Candidate Promises Lower Living Costs and Better Security
Atiku blamed the Tinubu administration for the rising cost of living and pledged to work towards making essential goods and services more affordable if elected in 2027.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he said.
He also expressed concern over kidnapping and attacks across the country, saying families continued to live with uncertainty about the safety of their loved ones.
His remarks form part of his campaign messaging ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The promises are campaign commitments; the message did not set out a detailed implementation plan or specific targets for reducing living costs or insecurity.
Atiku Urges Voters to Collect PVCs
The former vice-president called on registered voters who had yet to collect their PVCs to obtain and keep them safe.
He described the cards as a means for citizens to exercise their democratic rights and pursue political change through peaceful participation in elections.
“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.
The appeal comes as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 general elections and encourages eligible voters to collect their cards and verify their registration details through official channels.
Calls for Unity Across Generations
Atiku urged Nigerians of different ages and backgrounds to unite behind the goal of building a country where families can meet their basic needs, live safely and look towards the future with confidence.
He said the country’s economic and security challenges affect households across generations, and called for collective action through the democratic process.
The 2027 general election is expected to feature debates over the cost of living, economic policy, employment and national security as political parties and candidates present their proposals to voters.
