2027: AAC Inaugurates Presidential Campaign Council for Sowore
The party appoints Abdullahi Usman as Director-General and announces a nationwide campaign structure for its Sowore–Magashi presidential ticket.
The African Action Congress (AAC) has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, announcing plans to expand nationwide mobilisation for its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and running mate, Haruna Magashi.
The party announced the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, and signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.
According to the AAC, the inauguration marks a significant step in its preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the council expected to coordinate campaign activities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Abdullahi Usman to Lead Campaign Council
The party named Abdullahi Usman as Director-General of the campaign council, with deputies overseeing Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu will serve as the council’s secretary.
The AAC also established 10 national directorates to oversee key areas of the campaign. These include strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.
At the grassroots level, the campaign structure will extend through state, local government area, ward and polling-unit coordinators. These teams will be supported by volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and other supporters.
The party said the arrangement was designed to strengthen coordination between its national campaign leadership and organisers working in communities across the country.
AAC to Combine Digital and Grassroots Mobilisation
The party also highlighted the role of its SOWORENOW application in organising supporters and coordinating campaign activities.
According to the AAC, the new campaign council will complement its existing digital mobilisation infrastructure rather than replace it. The party said it intends to combine technology with physical outreach, political coordination and community-level engagement to expand the campaign’s reach.
The campaign is expected to target both urban and rural communities, extending beyond major cities and state capitals to local government areas, wards and polling units.
Party Says 2027 Election Is About Nigeria’s Political Direction
In its statement, the AAC described the 2027 election as an opportunity to change the country’s political direction, arguing that the existing political order had failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations.
“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the party said.
The AAC called on Nigerians who share its vision for a different political direction to participate in its campaign, stressing that political change requires active public involvement beyond the activities of politicians.
The inauguration marks another stage in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, as it seeks to strengthen its organisational structure, coordinate campaign activities nationwide and mobilise supporters ahead of the presidential poll.
